BAKELITE Carbolic acid and formaldehyde were used to produce *Bakelite*, an early non-flammable plastic. Popular 1920s, 1930s, 1940s. LUCITE DuPont chemists discovered LuciteŠ in 1931. After WWII, it was heavily used in the making of brooches, bracelets, jewelry. CELLULOID John Wesley Hyatt discovered that camphor was the proper solvent to make celluloid. Introduced in 1863.
